Sunapee Players Present Fall Production
CoEd Varsity DramaThe Sunapee players presented The Greek Mythology Olympiaganza by Don Zolidis for their opening night last Wednesday in the SMHS gymnasium. The play was directed by Sunapee Alumnus Renee Brandon, and it was executed very well. The short comedy play gained the audience's attention from the beginning with its laughter and silly antics. A particular highlight was the performance of sophomore Jordan Roosevelt, who successfully played numerous roles throughout the performance. Mr. Roosevelt grasped the concept of theater and drama and was a joy to watch. Additionally, the narrators for the performance, junior Jenna Caron and senior Daisy McFarland, did a fantastic job embodying their roles and making the narrative just as important as any other role. Overall, the fall play had a successful amount of drama students to help make the play enjoyable. Everyone in the play did a fantastic job. Lakers Win 3-0 to End the Season
Boys Varsity SoccerThe Sunapee Boys’ soccer team secured a convincing 3-0 victory over the visiting Newmarket Mules on Friday to end their regular season and secure a home playoff game on Wednesday against the Colebrook Mohawks. This was another tough game for the Lakers, but they were able to adjust their speed of play, hold their defensive line, and employ attacking tactics to find space and time to score. Senior Matthew Tschudin opened the scoring twelve minutes into the game with an assist by junior Mason Sailer. The Lakers kept up high speed play and meaningful passes until junior Sam Kress notched the second goal in the 25th minute of the half , which again was assisted by Sailer. In the second half Mason Sailer scored one of his own on an assist from Sam Kress. The rest of the game the Lakers kept control as seniors Conner Ryba, Deklan Peirce and Cam Messenger were a brick wall defending in the back. Girl’s Soccer Team Secures Big Win Heading Into the Play-offs
Girls Varsity SoccerSunapee, New Hampshire - The girls’ varsity soccer team played their last regular season game on Friday ending a great regular season at 14-2 and ending Newmarket’s undefeated season with a 2-1. The Mules opened the scoring with a first-half goal to take an early 1-0 lead. However, the Lady Lakers caused a foul in the box later in the first half, and senior Brynn Smith tied the game after scoring the PK. Junior Izzy Correa defended very well and earned the rightful title of Beast. Correa was all over the defensive line protecting the Laker defensive half. winning balls out of the air, and keeping the ball in front. The Lady Lakers pushed through to end the half in a 1-1 tie. Laker Girls’ Win on Senior Night
Girls Varsity SoccerSunapee, New Hampshire - A wonderful victory from an intense game made this night all more special. Wednesday evening, the girls’ varsity soccer team hosted the Woodsville Engineers and recognized five wonderful, hard-working seniors. Senior striker Brynn Smith, senior outside-back Calla Baker, senior midfielder Elizabeth Tschudin, senior sweeper Brie Hughlock, and senior stopper Miranda Andersen were all celebrated prior to the start of the game. After the recognition, the Lady Lakers started the game. A confident first goal was scored in the first half. A dribble down the right flank by Brynn Smith was then crossed to the top of the box when junior Sophie Borque was able to tap in a nice goal. The Lady Lakers then entered the second half. However, Woodsville came out ready to play and an unmarked Woodsville player was able to tie the game 1-1. The Lady Lakers brushed it off and played with more intensity. Lakers Boys Play to Tough 0-0 Draw
Boys Varsity SoccerSunapee, New Hampshire - A previous big loss at Woodsville of 3-1 earlier in the season was disappointing; however, the Lakers were able to redeem themselves and earn a 0-0 tie in double-overtime on senior night. The night was particularly a special night as the team recognized twelve seniors. Striker Reece Williams, striker Vincent Borelli, outside-halfback Jack Holobowicz, outside-halfback Nick Gallant, center mid Matthew Tschudin, defensive mid Samuel Flint, outside-back Deklan Pierce, center back Cameron Messenger, center back Conner Ryba, goalie Jonah Flint, and both managers Brady Ohi and Ryan Rechisky were recognized prior to the game. After the Senior celebration, the game was off to a quick start. Intense battles were demonstrated all over the field, and Dekaln Pierce had an outstanding game controlling the defensive side and winning what seemed like every ball. Girls Varsity SoccerEpping, New Hampshire - The girls’ varsity soccer team traveled to play against Epping on Tuesday. Another great, high-scoring game for the Lady Lakers. A 9-0 win brings their record to 9-2-0. The Lady Lakers have been continuously creating consistent pressure in their attack. The constant ball movement and touches created many opportunities for the Lady Lakers. Even on such a short field the Lady Lakers were able to find one another on the outside, though the middle and in the last third to net in a few goals. The Lady Lakers had numerous scorers this evening, senior Elizabeth Tschudin (4), senior Brynn Smith (3), sophomore Clare Touhy (2), and junior Sophie Borque (1). Lakers Dominate at Epping
Boys Varsity SoccerEpping, New Hampshire - The Sunapee varsity boys’ soccer team traveled to play against the Epping blue devils on Tuesday, and might I say it was their best game yet! Previously in the season the boys had tied 0-0 to Epping at home; so when traveling to Epping the Lakers thought it was going to be a tough, hard fought game. In the first half senior Matthew Tschudin scored in the 38th minute by bending in a corner kick that the Epping keeper couldn't get a hold of. It looked like junior Mason Sailer had the second goal right at the end of the half, but during the intermission the refs pulled it back stating the ball did not cross the line before the ending whistle blew. However, the scoring didn't stop there. The Epping blue devils scored two goals in the first ten minutes of the second half to take the lead 2-1. Junior Varsity Girls Lose to Hanover
Girls Junior Varsity SoccerHanover, New Hampshire - The girls’ junior varsity soccer team traveled to play against Hanover on Thursday. The Lady Lakers came out with a slow pace and a lack of intensity losing 5-0 against a talented Hanover team. A bright spot for the Lakers was junior goalkeeper Madi Hughes who had some outstanding saves in net, and the outside backs tracked and marked Hanover players well. Eighth grader Kaitlyn Andersen did a great job running the field, and junior Olivia Murgatroy did a great job communicating and helping her teammates. The Lady Lakers hope to finish off the season with a win as they host their final game of the season against Derryfield on Monday.

Junior Varsity Boys Close Season at 3-5-1
Boys Junior Varsity SoccerHanover, New Hampshire - The boys’ junior varsity soccer team traveled to Hanover for a rematch on Thursday. Unfortunately, the odds were not in their favor. The Lakers came out flat, and Hanover came out strong with the will to win. The Lakers couldn't get a hold of their attack and struggled to find the outside of the field. When the Lakers did find the ball, they attacked heavy and centered minded which created a few opportunities to score. The Lakers' strikers put heavy pressure on Hanover’s defense to try to win the ball, but it wasn’t enough. The Lakers took a big loss of 6-0. The Lakers finished the season 3-5-1. Although the outcome of the season was not what they had hoped for, the Lakers were able to learn from their mistakes and start learning faster speed of play. The Lakers had a great season and will be ready for the Winter sports.

Lakers Fall in Four Sets to Prospect Mountain to Open Homecoming Weekend
Girls Varsity VolleyballOn Friday, September 30th, the Sunapee Volleyball Team had a home match against Prospect Mountain High School. This was the first Homecoming event in a weekend full of Sunapee Athletics. This match saw the Sherburne Gym packed in a black-out by Sunapee students supporting their Lakers on homecoming. The first set was won by a score 25-17 in favor of Prospect Mountain. This was followed by a convincing 25-8 win by Prospect Mountain in the second set. Going into the third set, the Lakers were down 2-0 and trying to keep the match going. The Lakers extended the match by winning the third set 25-20 to keep their hopes of winning this match alive. Sadly for the Sunapee student section, however, the Lakers would go on to lose the next set 25-14. Notable performances were made by Emma Mcnally and Katelyn Claus who had a fantastic back-line game. Varsity Volleyball go 1-1 to Open the Week
Girls Varsity VolleyballThe Sunapee Volleyball team started last week off traveling to Mascoma Valley Regional High School on Monday, September 27th for their 7th match of the season. Going into this game, the Lakers were sitting at 4-2. Sunapee started off the game by winning the first set 25-16. The Lakers followed that with another winning set of 25-16. The Lakers led the match 2-0 going into the third set. In the third and final set, the Lakers won 25-8 in dominant fashion. Notable performances were Emma Mcnally, Katelyn Claus, and Emma Reed who all had a very successful night serving. This win moved the Lakers to 5-2 on the season. The Lakers then had a home match in the Sherburne Gym against the Epping Blue Devils on Tuesday, September 28th. This match marked the halfway point of the Lakers’ season. 1-0 Escape Victory Against The Hinsdale Pacers
Boys Varsity SoccerHinsdale, New Hampshire - The boys’ varsity soccer team traveled to play against Hinsdale on Thursday. The Lakers started the game very flat as they made flat runs and passed square balls where the opportunities weren’t able to line up for a finish. The Lakers had several opportunities where the ball crossed right through the six yard box, but unfortunately no one could get a solid foot on the ball. Senior Jonah flint turned away 13 shots on goal to seal the clean sheet for the evening. Hinsdale played faster, stronger and with much more courage to keep the game low scoring and two sided. However, senior Matthew Tschudin received a pass from senior Samuel Flint to earn a goal in the 30th minute. It ended up being just enough to earn a 1-0 victory. The Lakers record improves to 7-3-2. The Lakers will travel to Epping (8-1-1) on Tuesday to hopefully net a few goals to secure a win to improve their record.

Girls Junior Varsity SoccerSunapee, New Hampshire - The girls’ junior varsity soccer team lost a 5-0 match at home against Kearsarge on Thursday. In the first half, the Lady Lakers struggled to connect passes and mark players as Kearsarge proceeded to net 3 goals against our Lady Lakers to end the half. In the second half, the Lady Lakers came out with much more intensity and heart. They tracked back marks, opened up outside, and played more uniformed. However, the Lady Lakers ended in a 5-0 loss. The girls’ junior varsity soccer team will play against Hanover High School next Thursday.

Boys Junior Varsity SoccerSunapee, New Hampshire - The boys’ junior varsity soccer team lost a close home game 4-3 against Kearsarge on Thursday making their record 3-2-1. In the first half the JV boys had clinical touches where they were able to find the back of the net twice with goals from sophomore Malik Nasir to give them an early 2-0 lead. After surrendering a goal to the Cougars, eighth grader Sam Holobowicz finished on a penalty kick and continued to have tough and aggressive defensive play to go into the half 3-1. In the second half, Kearsarge came out with the will to win and played harder and faster than the Lakers. The Lakers ran out of gas in the second half and lost 4-3. Freshman Grayson Spears said, “We did very well in the first half, but we started getting tired too fast in the second half. Our defense struggled to clear balls out of the back.” The boys’ junior varsity soccer team will play away against Franklin.

Sunapee Golf Team Notches First Win
CoEd Varsity GolfOn Thursday, September 1st, The Sunapee Golf Team traveled to Farmington Golf Club for their third match of the season. Sunapee came in second place with 49 points, trailing Concord Christian Academy’s 59 points. They beat both Farmington High School and Moultonborough Academy who had 43 and 11 points respectively. Nick Pollari led the team with 19 points, followed by Charlie Gallant with 14, Sawyer Willis with 10, and Sam Gaudet with 6. This match put Sunapee to 2-6 on the season heading into their fourth match. Sunapee’s next match was postponed due to weather conditions on Tuesday, September 6th. Therefore their fourth match was Thursday, September 8th at Newport Golf Club. In this match, Sunapee scored a season high 56 points in their second place finish behind Hopkinton High School’s 74 points, however Sunapee beat Gorham High School’s 36 points, and Newport High School’s 25 points. Boys Varsity SoccerSunapee, New Hampshire - The boys’ varsity soccer team played in their coldest game yet, but that didn’t stop them from securing victory against Wilton on Monday. The Laker controlled the play for most of the game this evening against the visiting Warriors. In the first half, senior Vincent Borelli got an early goal just 2 minutes into the game. Junior Sam Kress served a beautiful assist which set up Borelli for a nice one time finish. Junior Mason Sailer scored 15 minutes into the half with an assist from senior Matthew Tschudin. In the second half Borelli scored his second goal while Kress and Tschudin each tallied a score apiece to finish the night with a 5-0 win. Senior Jonah Flint earned the shutout in the goal with help from strong defense by senior Deklan Peirce and senior Conner Ryba. The Lady Lakers consistently pushed against the Wilton defense and found a great deal of success passing through and running in behind to give them a convincing 10-0 win. Senior Brynn Smith had 4 goals, senior Elizabeth Tschudin 2 goals and an assist, sophomore Hannah Laflamme had 1 goal, sophomore Clare Touhy had 1 goal and 3 assists, junior Amelia Slack had 1 goal, sophomore Lilly Kelliher had 1 goal and 1 assist, and junior Sophie Bourque had one assist. Laker Boys Suffer A Loss to CCA
Boys Varsity SoccerSunapee, New Hampshire - The boys’ varsity soccer team played an exciting and physical game against Concord Christian Academy for homecoming on Saturday! The Lakers came out strong in the first half and soon enough earned a free kick. While the CCA keeper was off guard, senior Matthew Tschudin scored a nice free kick to put the Lakers up 1-0. The Lakers defense, led by senior Cameron Messenger and senior Connor Ryba, kept the CCA attack from passing through their defense as the Lakers cleared the ball and pushed up the field to try to find their strikers. The Lakers ended the half with a 1-0 lead. In the second half, the Lakers battled but CCA eventually wore the Lakers down and were able to find the back of the net three times to give them the lead 3-1 victory. It was a tough loss for the Lakers who drop to 4-3-2 on the season; however, they have an easier stretch of games beginning with Wilton at home on Monday.
