A wonderful victory from an intense game made this night all more special. Wednesday evening, the girls’ varsity soccer team hosted the Woodsville Engineers and recognized five wonderful, hard-working seniors. Senior striker Brynn Smith, senior outside-back Calla Baker, senior midfielder Elizabeth Tschudin, senior sweeper Brie Hughlock, and senior stopper Miranda Andersen were all celebrated prior to the start of the game.
After the recognition, the Lady Lakers started the game. A confident first goal was scored in the first half. A dribble down the right flank by Brynn Smith was then crossed to the top of the box when junior Sophie Borque was able to tap in a nice goal. The Lady Lakers then entered the second half. However, Woodsville came out ready to play and an unmarked Woodsville player was able to tie the game 1-1. The Lady Lakers brushed it off and played with more intensity. Junior Izzy Correa stepped hard to 50/50 balls and soon enough, senior Elizabeth Tschudin took space in the middle third of the field and dribbled towards goal. Sophomore Clare Touhy made a beautiful c-cut run towards the goal box where Elizabeth Tschudin slipped it in to Clare to gain the lead back. The Lady Lakers defense was trying to clear balls out of the back but had trouble. This led to Woodsville earning a corner kick which resulted in a goal off the corner kick which tied the game 2-2. With ten minutes left in the game, the Lady Lakers preserved. Effort increased. and the girls were able to push up the field. Elizabeth Tschudin found the ball, took on a player and dribbled centrally where she ripped a shot that secured the game for the Lady Lakers.
A 3-2 win was a great win for the Lady Lakers for their record, but also on their senior night! The Lady Lakers played their last regular season game against Newmarket on Friday and a win led to a third seed heading into the play-offs.
