Sunapee, New Hampshire – The boys varsity soccer team opened their season with a 4-1 win against Hinsdale at home on Tuesday. The Lakers earned an early goal two minutes into the game when senior Matthew Tschudin put the Lakers on the scoreboard. Just moments later, a rebound from junior Sam Kress pushed the score to 2-0 for a quick and commanding lead early in the first half.
Starting the second half, Hinsdale came out hard and earned their lone goal two minutes into the second half. However, the Lakers bounced back and senior Samuel Flint was taken down in the box, forcing a penalty. Later on the Lakers earned a free kick from the left flank. Both the PK and free kick were scored by Matthew Tschudin earning him a “hat trick” for the evening; assists were awarded to Matthew Tschudin and Nick Gallant.
After the game, striker Sam Kress said “Our defense really played well and we had a lot of good simple passing. However, our attack needs more work.” Fellow striker Nick Gallant said, “It was a decent start to the season and I'm excited for what’s to come.” Following a strong first win, then Laker boys will face the Epping Blue Devils on Tuesday.
