Sunapee, New Hampshire -

The girls’ varsity soccer team played their last regular season game on Friday ending a great  regular season at 14-2 and ending  Newmarket’s undefeated season with a 2-1. The Mules opened the scoring with a first-half goal to take an early 1-0 lead. However, the Lady Lakers caused a foul in the box later in the first half, and senior Brynn Smith tied the game after scoring the PK. Junior Izzy Correa defended very well and earned the rightful title of Beast. Correa was all over the defensive line protecting the Laker defensive half. winning balls out of the air, and keeping the ball in front. The Lady Lakers pushed through to end the half in a 1-1 tie.

Going into the second half, the Lady Lakers came out harder and more aggressive. Senior Calla Baker did a great job marking her opponents, and her defensive play was truly her best yet! The Lady Lakers were 20 minutes into the second half still battling for that winning goal. Tackles from all over the field were shielded by the intensity of the game. Soon enough, the Lady Lakers found an opportunity. At the 10 minute mark, a loose ball was found at the top of the defense, senior Elizabeth Tschudin picked it off and scored a filthy game winner. The Lady Lakers were ecstatic;the long hard effort to this moment has finally come! However, there was 10 minutes left. The Lady Lakers shaped more defensively and kept Newmarket away from the goal. The final whistle blew, and the Lady Lakers celebrated hard. Jumping, hugging, and smiles were non-stop after that final whistle of the last home game of the season.
The Lady Lakers ended the season 14-2-0, and placed third overall in their standings. The Lady Lakers will have their first playoff game at home on Tuesday against the Lin-Wood Lumberjacks. Come support your Lady Lakers and cheer them towards victory!
